City of Heroes
City of Heroes is an online massive mutli-player role playing game (MMORPG) that allows players to become super heroes and fight against evil enemies and gangs. The game has a “comic book” feel, and takes place in a world called Paragon City. Paragon City is the home of many strange, eccentric, powerful villains, and it’s up to the player to help protect the citizens from the likes of the villains.
Paragon City was founded in 1823, and is now currently the largest city in the United States. This is obviously a great game for players who wish to spend some time in an “alternate universe.”

Here are some of the many reasons why City of Heroes is a fun game:
• Who doesn’t want to be a super hero!? All players can choose the type of super hero they want their character to be. Girls can even create female super heroes to play as.
• An expansion to the game, “City of Villains”, even gives players the chance to play as the villains!
• Some character choices include: costume design, special super power, secret origin(s), physical appearance, etc. Players can not only become a super hero, but they can customize the way their alter ego looks!
• Players can run all around the entire city to explore, work on quests, chat with other players, and to protect and save the citizens.
• As the players complete quests and successfully defeat villains, their character levels up and they can receive reward points and super powers.
Beginners start out in the “Outbreak” zone where they will learn about game play. Outbreak is basically a “tutorial area”. Newbies of course can always ask other players for help, as well as visit one of the countless fan communities online dedicated to the game.
Players can choose an origin for their character which will determine what type of power and skills the character will have. The origins include: magic, natural, mutation, science, and technology. Each origin gives the player a certain type of skill that the player will be using throughout the game.
As with all MMORPG games, there are different type of “level zones” found throughout the city. Beginner players, obviously, need to steer away from the high level zones, unless they have high level allies accompanying them. Likewise, high level players will waste their time hanging around low level zones, unless they’re trying to help a newbie friend.
All in all, City of Heroes is a very fun game for all those comic book geeks out there. Even those who normally aren’t a big fan of comic books will find themselves enjoying City of Heroes and City of Villains.
